Why is your webpage QR code not scanning?

Most QR scan failures are not mysterious. They usually come from the link, the layout, or the exported asset getting worse along the way.

When a QR code does not scan, people often blame the generator first. In practice, the cause is usually ordinary: the link is off, the code is too small, the contrast is weak, or the exported asset got worse after sharing.

Check the destination link before the image

Do not start with the image. Open the link by itself first. If the destination redirects badly, depends on unstable auth, or feels broken on mobile, a successful scan still leads to a bad experience.

The QR code is only the doorway. A correct doorway does not fix a bad destination.

Inspect contrast, size, and surrounding space

Low contrast, tiny sizing, and missing quiet space are common reasons scans fail. Dark code on a light background is still the safest baseline.

If the QR code sits inside a busy poster or slide, the empty space around it matters almost as much as the code itself.

Review the export and delivery path

If the asset gets passed through chat tools, screenshots, or compressed image exports, quality often drops enough to matter.

So do not only test the original generator output. Test the exact file people will actually receive.

  • Open the link directly first
  • Increase contrast and display size
  • Leave more empty space around the code
  • Retest the final exported asset, not only the source design

Most scan failures are not mysterious. Testing the real distributed asset is usually more useful than guessing around the generator.
